Faux finishes week: Stone

Hi,
If some of you are already starting on Christmas cards (yes, some have already started), Neil is thinking ahead for Halloween with is really cool stone technique.
If you are not into Halloween project, I can really see this faux-stone technique used on a masculine card or on an altered box/ letter.

There is no special offer this week, but there will be a challenge on Sunday for you to try out all the faux-techniques.

I started by applying gesso to a tag using a sponge applicator. Using a dabbing motion gives a lovely rough stone texture. Scratch out the word while wet using the back of a brush and allow to dry.

When this is dry use the sponge to apply some green and blue paint.

Cover the tag with grey paint; add some lighter areas by adding some white to the mix and allow to dry.

Using a mix of black and a bit of white, drybrush to highlight the textures. Rub some black paint around the edges with your finger for stronger detail and use a fine brush to add some cracks. Result is one old headstone; perfect for Halloween!
Materials
Americana - Avocado, deep midnight blue, slate grey, snow white, black acrylic paint
